Episode 20 - Matt Pryor (The Get Up Kids)

It was an absolute honor to have Mr. Matt Pryor from The Get Up Kids be a part of the podcast.  I just noticed after listening back to this episode that the only person left to interview from my opening musical montage is Jeremy Enigk.  What a trip it's been.

Matt was great to chat with and even had to scold his kids who you can hear at times during the interview. We dove into the first time Matt sang live in front of someone, Kansas City, Boy's Life, ripping off "Static Prevails" and why bands do 10 year anniversaries.  Matt also mentioned his opinion on the word "emo" and throughout the podcast you can hear his voice ring with truth that also transcends to the bands he was in and his way of life. And you have to hear what song The Get Up Kids never have to practice that you love.  Finally, download his recently launched podcast "Nothing To Write Home About" which is a great listen and unique insight into the scene.

Totally digging your podcast -- many thanks for your great work and reviving my interest in a genre that once consumed me -- I realize it requires TON of effort.

In all honesty my attention has fallen off of late (Jazz June and Movielife aren't my thing). But I LOVE LOVE the Get Up Kids -- so of course this edition caught my eye (and ears!).

And boy did it deliver: Matt Pryor is totally cool and a total character (more so than anyone one else you've had on the show thus far).

When you posed your question about why so many bands seem (all of the sudden)to be reuniting for the deluge of "ten years later" reunion tours, and Matt just blurt out: "for the money..." I -- while sitting in my quiet, staid office cube covertly listen to your pod -- burst out laughing!

Matt's response was all at once completely disarming, incredibly honest and totally charming. That statement, along with hearing his kids in the background and him yelling them about popcorn and whatever else was totally endearing.

Moreover, his honest and unqualified statements about his frustration with his band mates, touring, fan's demands and the business in general was enlightening and very refreshing. Sounds like this guy's pretty busy, but I'd like to nominate him for participation in national politics -- this is the kind of "transparency" We the People really need...

In short: I loved the show! Many many thanks for all over your hard work -- Please keep it up!
