Premiere: Grieving - "Brian Emo"

Here’s the first single from an as yet untitled debut album, set for later this year from the band Grieving. For fans of Sunny Day Real Estate, Braid and Jawbreaker.

Grieving are a new, unsigned band from Cambridge, playing direct, twisting art-punk. Their first demo was debuted by tastemakers The FADER in March last year and their second track - the raw, dual vocalled post-hardcore / 90's indie-rock of "Ownership" - saw them pick up their first Radio 1 play from Dan P Carter. Further singles “My Friend, The Ghost” and “Little Armoured” saw further Radio 1 and Radio 6 support, as well as write-up’s from the likes of Stereogum and DIY and a compilation of these early tracks, the “Demonstrations” EP was self-released by the band just before Summer last year. Interest in this material led to Hanger Records putting the record out on cassette and reissuing ahead of a short tour with Tellison in November. The band have also played dates with the much buzzed about Muncie Girls, Sorority Noise and Three Trapped Tigers as well as another short tour with Pet Grief and The New Tusk.

Today, after six months away working on new material, they return with “Brian Emo” a first track from a debut album set for release later this year. Recorded with Bob Cooper (Citizen, Kamikaze Girls, Self Defense Family, Nai Harvest etc.) at his Crooked Rain Studios in February. Expect further material in the coming weeks and months, with the same diversity of sound present in the earlier material.

In debt to the likes of Les Savy Fav, Bear vs Shark, Dismemberment Plan, Fugazi and elsewhere the lo-fi pop and fully charged punk of Guided By Voices, Samiam, Jealous Sound, The Lemonheads, Bob Mould etc. you can hear the anxious, anthemic indie-punk of “No Sleep” HERE, the more angular crunch of "Ownership" HERE and the contemplative melody of "My Friend, The Ghost" HERE
